23 Feb Congratulations Marea Reed
Congratulations to photographer Maria Reed for making the Director’s Cut of the 64th Blake Prize with her photograph Down To The River.
Using a painterly process, Marea captures moments of youthful melancholy and magic.
Exhibiting at GkJE 1 in 2015’s Head On Photo Festival and A Bit Blue 3, Maria’s photography is a very personal exploration of her own childhood memories and dreams, illustrating how they can meld together, leaving only the emotion.
“My childhood hummed with a sense of the magical beyond the green suburbs,” Marea recalls, “and a longing for the embrace and inclusion.” In this exhibition, Marea attempts to recreate the lonely awkwardness of adolescence, while evoking memories that shift constantly between the vivid and the opaque.
